Democratic Debate …

Today's Buzz ...

Note to RNC Chairman Mike Duncan: Please send a recording of last night’s Democratic Presidential Debate to John McCain and Mitt Romney – with a brief note explaining that this is what a civilized “debate” looks like ...

Note to DNC Chairman Howard Dean: see above – substitute in the names of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama – use the same wording on the note - just as a reminder to both of them ...

All in all, the reviews are that last night’s debate was probably as close to what a real debate – between mature adults seeking the highest elected office in this country – should resemble ... I’m very (very) pleased that it didn’t turn into the ‘slugfest’ that was originally anticipated. I think I learned more about both of the candidates’ positions within those two hours than I have in a very long time. And isn’t that what it’s suppose to be about?

You can find transcripts of the debate on both the main transcript page at CNN.com, as well as on the dedicated CNN Politics site.

Here are some of the early debate reviews that I’ve found (so far):

NY Times

Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama met for a debate in LA Thursday, sitting side by side and sharing a night of smiles, friendly eye-catching and gentle banter.

LA Times

Clinton, Obama gently debate Iraq in Hollywood

Washington Post

Head to Head, Clinton, Obama Shelve Rancor

Time Magazine

Scorecard and final grade from Mark Halperin

The AC 360° post debate analysis on both evenings was very insightful and provided a basis for a greater understanding of some of the nuances otherwise missed. And I guess I’m not quite as irritated with Bill Bennett as I once was, although I still dislike him. But there aren’t many conservatives that I can tolerate for any length of time ...

As a brief ‘aside’ - Speaking of conservatives (or witches – take your pick), none other than the queen of “all-we-hate-about-bitter-angry-bigoted-Conservatives” – Ann Coulter – is endorsing Hillary Clinton over John McCain. “WHAT????” - you ask in shocked disbelief??? Yes, you read that correctly. You can check out the article here for more details. I’d be busy burying this ‘endorsement’ if I were part of Camp Clinton ...

The Thursday night ‘AC 360° politicos’:

Tom Foreman lent some ‘map enlightenment’ to both evenings as it relates to the race for delegates, and the ‘cherry-picking’ that will surely occur in the Democratic race – since delegates are won on a proportional basis. As an interesting supplemental ‘factoid’ - particularly as Super Tuesday gets closer - more people live in Los Angeles County than in the entire state of Michigan. THAT’S how high the stakes are in California ...

Other quick news and notes:

AC on Regis & Kelly this morning ...

Well, no "drunk girls - version 2.0" story ...

But who in the world thought it would be wise to let Anderson Cooper anywhere NEAR a stove or oven??? I'm almost surprised that he didn't burn down the whole studio! (I'm kidding, of course!) No wonder Kelly was MIA for most of that segment!!! ;-)

And if you'd like to take a second view of the opening 'chat' with Anderson & Kelly (or a first look), here's the link.

Bill Maher will be appearing on Larry King Live this Monday, 2/4/08

E-mail questions or send in video questions ... these hours are always well worth watching ... (IMHO)

Fox News analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano on The Colbert Report

And how could I not mention the “slip” on last night’s Colbert Report – courtesy of the Judge – guess this means that Stephen’s ‘transformation’ into a Bill-O ‘clone’ is thoroughly convincing, huh??

tonight on Anderson Cooper 360°:

Thanks for visiting - updates posted as needed - have a terrific Friday!
