There are a few advantages to being on the West Coast - we get to celebrate New Year's all over again in a little over an hour!! But I still miss NYE in New York - it's true when they say you can't quite get the "New York" completely out of you, no matter where you go!!
Well, as for the "pairing" this year with Kathy Griffin, I think I'll reserve final judgment until tomorrow, but my initial reaction is that at the very least - her 'air time' seemed to take away from the music acts and the other correspondents. They never even checked in with Sean Callebs in New Orleans - perhaps some technical difficulties, perhaps not ...
Anyway - here are a few quick caps - more tomorrow - but I have party # 2 to "get to" (although that means simply joining the revelers in the living room), so here it is - ENJOY!!!

I think your initial assessment that Kathy's presence will take away air from the other guests, (i.e. Sean Calebs, Erica,) and the musical groups.
Somewhat unfair to them and I was rather disappointed at that. Though I laughed at watching Anderson laugh with Kathy, I grew tired of watching Kathy and was glad the show was only 1 1/2 hour
Newsblooz: I hope you and everyone else had a great New Year’s Eve last night! There is nothing like NYE in New York!
I agree with your initial assessment of the “pairing” last night; on top of the shortened program, it did take time away from the other guests and reporters like Gary and Sean. I wasn’t particularly impressed, the teasing seemed to be the focus of the entire night and IMO the one-liners got old quickly. Griffin and Anderson seemed to be either talking over each other or there was an uncomfortable lull in the conversation, but she gave some viewers what they wanted so I guess it was a success.
I really enjoyed what I did see of Gary’s run and I thought John’s visit with the “ladies” was hilarious! I think he may have been having a little too much fun, but luckily Mrs. Zarrella was there to keep him in line! Please include some caps of the drag queens and John!
Thanks for the great caps; I look forward to your first Buzz blog of the New Year!
@ Anonymous - thanks for your comment! I think that if the program had been just a little longer, there might have been more time for Sean Callebs in New Orleans, E, W & F and Miranda Lambert, at least. And maybe we could have seen the end of the Central Park Run - I distinctively remember that we saw the end last year!
Comments from the AC360 Yahoo group aren't overly flattering (so far) for Ms. Griffin - Stephen Colbert has even been mentioned as a better potential 'co-host'. I must say that I agree 100% with THAT assessment!! :-)
@ Stardust: Yeah, I think the one-liners got a little old a little too quickly. And Kathy did tip-toe into some probable 'no-no' territory - I mean, what did she expect that Anderson would say when she asked which Bush Administration members should be waterboarded?
Actually, because of the reduced "corrspondent" time allotment, I can tell you that Mr. Zarella has had much MORE fun with the "ladies" in years past - and it's been a hit without question! I have no doubt that they look forward to his visits each NYE!! And yes, I will definitely cap those segments! :-)
Newsblooz: I think the “daddy baby” comments caught Anderson off guard even more. He even stumbled in his response to them. I am not sure what he meant, but I am sure that it will be talked about ad nauseam on the Internet.
I was quite surprised by all of the technical difficulties they had even right off the bat.
Yes, we did see the end of Gary’s run last year and we saw John having much more fun in earlier years, but the look on his face when he is with those “ladies” is priceless; I think I even saw him blush a little! Ha!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.
Newsblooz-I am glad others were not impressed with Kathy's appearance last night.
I thought Anderson did a good job of cutting her off when she brought up water boarding. Like you said, what did she think Anderson was going to say about it.
I think she was having trouble keeping her mouth clean last night and I think Anderson was uncomfortable with what might come out of her mouth.
Since they didn't stay on air to ring in the New Year in the Central Time Zone, I don't know why they bothered to show Sean Calebs in NOLA, but it was interesting to see that he plays guitar.
I wished we could have seen Gary finishing the race. He seemed to be having a good time, but maybe they had technical difficulties like they had at the beginning with Erica.
Thanks for the screen caps. The ones with Erica, Gary and Anderson by himself are great.
Thanks for posting the great New Years screencaps.
Happy New Year everyone!
