Get the voting ballots ready!!!

Today’s Buzz ...

tonight on Anderson Cooper 360°:

  • From last night’s program ... (Soledad O’Brien filling in)

Is Hillary Unstoppable?

The date for the Iowa caucus (1/14/08) seems so far away right now ...

Did you see her “Middle Class Express” tour bus? It’s going to take a lot more than a decorated bus to convince me that Hillary Clinton truly cares about the “middle class”. I know that she has majority support among Dems nationwide, and I’m still perplexed by it. I’m still perplexed by the “Hillary-mania”, quite frankly. Perhaps it partly stems from the fact that I’m not so blindly willing to give her the same level of “credit” for her 8 years as First Lady towards her total overall “experience”. I keep wondering if those who are polled really support her, or are accepting her as the closest thing they’ll get to another “Bill” term. And if that’s truly the case, then get rid of the 22nd Amendment!! I know that her “camp” has continued in overdrive to distinguish her from him, and political wonks can cite examples of differences, but is that truly believed by the “average” voter? We’ll see …

The panel discussion (Soledad, Candy Crowley and Gloria Borger) was interesting – emphasizing one of those sometimes lost details that gets candidates in trouble – in Iowa. And that’s strength of the organization when it comes to making sure that their supporters actually show up at the caucus sites. Months of otherwise successful campaigning can be undermined in one evening if a candidate’s organization isn’t fully prepared to ensure that their supporters get to their designated caucus locations! Howard Dean learned that the hard way in 2004 ...

Iraq Troop Reduction by Christmas?

That’s a “fake news” headline, right? It seems that the Administration is hovering somewhere between “creative math” and “putting their best face forward” on this alleged promise – a position that they’ve (unfortunately) become too familiar with. So if 4 brigades leave and are replaced with only 3 brigades, that counts, right? But if other previously scheduled rotations end up leaving the US with just as many troops in Iraq as during the surge – and this happens after the surge is (allegedly) over – well, who’s counting, really???

Marathon Heat ...

It’s so sad that one of the runners died in the Chicago Marathon on Sunday. It wasn’t the smartest call to go through with it under the weather conditions. And with an inadequate water supply. I suspect that there will be some kind of legal action that arises out of this lapse of judgment.

That Sinking Feeling ...

Wow – a very interesting stat – I didn’t know that 50% of Americans live within 50 miles of a coast? Yikes – I’m not so sure that I like being in that category!! But again – we have a demonstration on the program as to why it’s just not a smart idea to build a house on clay, or on a hillside, and if you build on a hillside made of clay – well – you’re inviting eventual disaster right into your living room. In more ways than one ...

Soledad had a very good interview with Stephen Flynn, author of “The Edge of Disaster”. I wonder when more people who have decision-making authority about our national infrastructure will take some of his warnings seriously? He briefly mentioned the recent Minnesota bridge collapse and made the point that we’ve grown complacent, where we’re no longer learning from our mistakes. You think?? Just one example – the “rebuilt” NOLA levees ...

Unholy Actions ...

No – this isn’t another Catholic Church story!! But it does involve a Christian (and I use the term with caution) University and two fired professors who are claiming that college funds are being used to support a lavish lifestyle for the University President. Former Oral Roberts University professors John Swails and Tim Brocker have filed a lawsuit claiming that, among other actions, evidence was found on a computer belonging to the sister-in-law of University President Richard Roberts which demonstrated university funds being used for payments involving personal cell phones, clothes, travel and home remodeling. This just sounds like it’s going to be settled quickly, swept under the rug as best as possible, and the fervent ORU supporters will carry on as though nothing happened.

DC Sniper SIU preview ...

There will be an SIU report (from Soledad O’Brien) airing on Wednesday at 8:00 PM ET called “Inside the Minds of the DC Snipers”. It’s been five years since their time of terror, and it still brings chills to think about that episode. Soledad showed a preview with a clip of a video from John Allen Muhammad, and part of an interview with his ex-wife. This should be an interesting in-depth look at mind control, among other topics.

Quick Notes from the program ...

Blackwater – has been ordered to get out of Iraq by their government within the next 6 months.

Michael Devlin has been sentenced to life in prison – he was the kidnapper and abuser of Shawn Hornbeck and Ben Ownby.

Marion Jones has returned her Olympic Gold and Bronze medals.

Larry Craig will be inducted into the Idaho Hall of Fame. Hasn’t that already happened? Oh, wait, that’s the Hall of Infamy ...

And start the campaign now – ANDERSON FOR PRESIDENT!!

How could I end without the adorable panda shot???
